Install BumpBook
Install on iPhone or iPad
Install BumpBook before you set up your journal. On iPhone and iPad the Home Screen app keeps its own storage, separate from Safari, and Safari can clear data for websites you haven't used for 7 days.
- Open your private link from START HERE in Safari (not a private tab).
- Tap Share. If it isn't in the toolbar, tap ⋯ first.
- Choose Add to Home Screen (under View More if you don't see it), then Add.
- Open BumpBook from your Home Screen and set up your journal there.
Chrome on iPhone works the same way: tap Share in the address bar, then Add to Home Screen.
If the Home Screen app shows the BumpBook product page, paste your private link into the box at the bottom of that page and tap Open BumpBook.
Install on Android
- Open your private link from START HERE in Chrome.
- Tap Chrome's menu ⋮, then Install (it may say Add to Home screen or Install app), then Install again.
- Open BumpBook from its icon on your Home screen.
Install on a Windows, Mac or ChromeOS computer
- Chrome or Edge: open your private link, then choose Install in the address bar. BumpBook opens in its own window and can be pinned to the taskbar or Dock.
- Safari on a Mac: open your private link, then choose File › Add to Dock.
- Firefox: can't install apps. BumpBook works fully in a normal tab; bookmark it.
Get started
Open BumpBook with your private link
- Open START HERE.pdf from your Etsy download and tap Open BumpBook.
- Use your normal browser, not a private or incognito window: BumpBook keeps your journal in ordinary browser storage.
- Afterwards BumpBook opens at bumpbook.jykdigital.com without the link. Keep the PDF in case you ever need the link again.
Your link is just for you: please don't share it or post it online.
Set up your journal
- Choose Set up my journal.
- Choose how you'd like to set your due date: Due date, Last period, Conception date, IVF transfer or Ultrasound. Enter the date, then choose That's right, continue.
- Add a few details if you like, such as your baby's nickname, then choose Continue. Or choose Skip.
- Choose Protect with PIN to lock BumpBook on this device, or Maybe later.
That's all BumpBook needs. You can start at any week, and change these answers at any time in More, then Pregnancy Settings.
Explore the demo
Choose Explore the demo to try BumpBook with an example journal, already filled in. Nothing you do there affects your own journal. When you're ready, use the banner at the top of the demo to start your own.
Photos and your Keepsake Book
Photos in your journal
Choose New (on a tablet or computer, the Create button at the top), then Photo. You can also add photos to a memory, a milestone, a journal entry, a letter or an appointment. You can add up to 10 photos to an entry.
BumpBook keeps its own two copies of each photo: one large enough to print in your Keepsake Book and a small one for lists. It doesn't keep the original file, so keep your originals in your photo library. The hidden details a camera adds, such as the location, are removed.
If BumpBook says a file couldn't be read as a photo, or your browser cannot read an iPhone photo (HEIC), try a JPEG or PNG version of it.
Each backup includes the photos stored on the device that makes it; photos do not sync between linked devices. See Use BumpBook on more than one device.
Make your Keepsake Book
- Open More, then Keepsake Book.
- Under Cover, check the title and choose a cover photo.
- Under Look, choose a theme, Warm or Editorial, and a format: A4, US Letter or 8 × 8 in.
- Under Chapters, see what each chapter holds and what is left out of the book.
- Choose Create book. BumpBook may suggest a backup first, then counts the pages as it makes them.
- When it says Your book is ready, choose Save book.
BumpBook makes the book's PDF on your device and doesn't print it: print the PDF yourself or take it to a print service. You can change the look or the contents and create it again at any time.
If a book is too large to make in one piece on your device, BumpBook offers to make it as separate volumes. Save each one.
The device needs every photo you chose for the book, so if you link devices, add those photos on one device and make the book there. A backup file can bring photos to a device that has added none of its own: see Use BumpBook on more than one device.
Keep your journal safe
Back up your journal
- Open More, then Backup and restore, and choose Back up journal.
- Choose Save the backup. On iPhone and iPad, choose Save to Files.
- Keep the .bumpbook file somewhere safe, such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive.
- Back up again after you make changes. BumpBook suggests it when it's been a while.
To protect the file, turn on Protect with a password and enter a password of at least 8 characters twice; nobody can recover this password, including us, so keep it somewhere safe. You cannot restore this file without it.
Without a password, anyone with the file can read your journal, so keep it private.
The file holds everything you have written and the photos stored on this device.
Move to a new device or to the installed app
- On the old device (or in Safari), back up your journal.
- On the new device (or in the installed app), open BumpBook with your private link. On an iPhone or iPad, add BumpBook to the Home Screen first.
- Choose Restore from a backup file and pick the file. BumpBook checks it and shows what's inside before anything changes.
The new device then has a copy of your journal and the photos stored on the device that made the backup.
Linking is for using your linked devices side by side, and it doesn't move photos. To use both, see Use BumpBook on more than one device.
Use BumpBook on more than one device
- On the device that has your journal, open More, then Devices, and choose Link another device. The first time, name this device and choose Show a code. A six-digit code appears; it works for 5 minutes.
- On the other device, open BumpBook with your private link and choose I already use BumpBook on another device. If BumpBook is already set up there, open More, then Devices, and choose Enter a code instead; linking replaces what that device has.
- Type the code and choose Link this device (Replace and link on a device that's already set up).
- On the first device, check the name and choose Approve. The other device opens with your journal.
- From then on, what you write and record on either device reaches the other when both are online. You can link up to five of your own devices.
Photos stay on the device that added them. A backup file carries them to another device. Where a photo isn't on a device, BumpBook shows Photo not on this device.
A backup carries only the photos stored on the device that made it. To bring them across, back up on the device that has the photos and restore that file on the other device straight away. The devices stay linked, and your other linked devices get the restored journal too, so use a backup you have just made.
Restoring replaces everything on that device, including photos added there that are not in the file; leave Back up current data first selected and save that backup, because the replaced photos will survive only in that file. Bring photos across only to a device that has added none of its own, and add all photos on one device if you want them together for your Keepsake Book.
What you write is encrypted on your devices before it leaves them, and an encrypted copy is kept on our server so your devices can stay in step. Only your linked devices can read it. Nobody can recover it for you, so linking isn't a backup: a change or a deletion on one device reaches the others, and if every linked device is lost, a backup file is the only way to get your journal back. Keep saving a backup file now and then.
To stop, open More, then Devices, and choose Stop syncing on this device. The journal stays on every device.
Lock BumpBook with a PIN
- Open More, then Settings.
- Under App lock, turn on PIN.
- Choose a PIN of 4 digits, then enter it again.
- Under Auto-lock, choose when BumpBook locks.
The PIN is an app lock, not encryption. It locks BumpBook on this device only: each device has its own PIN.
If you forget your PIN: we can't reset a PIN. On the lock screen, choose Forgot PIN?, then Erase local data. This erases all BumpBook data on this device only. Then restore your journal from a backup file.
Erasing also ends this device's link, and your other linked devices keep their copy. If another linked device still has your journal, you can link this device again; photos stored only here need a backup to return, so save a backup before setting a PIN.
If something isn't right
I see the BumpBook product page instead of my journal
This browser hasn't been unlocked yet, or its cookies were cleared. Open your private link from START HERE again, or paste it into the box at the bottom of the product page. Your journal is still in this browser's storage; opening the link brings it back.
